Windsor Ontario Development

There is plenty of buzz around Windsor Ontario about how the city is becoming more diversified. With myself being in the real estate sales industry I welcome anything and everything that will make the city a better place to live and in turn hopefully buy and or invest in. We definitely have our people that seem to complain about anything and everything. It’s obvious that any new development is going to affect someone in some form or another. I have included some of the current happenings in Windsor Ontario.

First we have talk of the new international crossing that will bring a large number of jobs to the Windsor and Essex region. I have seen this plan and I for one think it looks great. It will add green space and park land, new walking and biking trails and most important, will keep the trucks moving without stopping and starting on city streets. The city however feels it is necessary to continue spending money fighting the issue saying we need more tunneling. This is a project that needs to start as soon as possible, I don’t know for sure if the city is holding anything up, but I’m sure it isn’t helping matters. We definitely have enough competition from Matty Moroun wanting to build a new crossing (which I am not against either, why not have an extra crossing?) and the politicians on the U.S. side of the border saying, “Why do we need to pay for a new crossing if this guy is doing it for free?” Let’s get the shovels in the ground before they say forget it. “Build it and they will come”

Next we have the proposal of building a new Windsor jail or detention center just off Walker road which is being fought tooth and nail too. I’ve heard “not in my back yard”. What is the problem with this? I don’t see where it is all that close to residential homes (I may get an ear full). This is new investment for the city of Windsor and will create more jobs. Drive down Sandwich st. and you wouldn’t even know there is a jail there unless you were told of it. What’s the problem with that? The prisoners aren’t escaping and coming into your house. Again let’s get the shovel in the ground.

Windsor is also talking of putting a canal into the downtown area to attract investment. This one I am not too sure about. I think a boat dock in the downtown area is a great idea, but hey like I said let’s invest in Windsor. “Build it and they will come”. There are plenty of day-trippers still out there that may look to Windsor as a favorable place to stop in when noticing our gorgeous waterfront, Caesars Casino, restauants and bars.

Windsor Ontario is also looking at becoming a perishable goods hub. Great idea in my eyes. Many surrounding areas could be serviced through the Windsor Detroit crossings. I have already heard some people going against this too. There will be increased air traffic and more trucks on the road. Unfortunately this is part of investing in our city. Let’s get this project going.

Windsor is starting to lean more towards the professional sector from what I have seen. We have a new medical school, the engineering school is coming soon (I hope). We could certainly start catering to some of these graduates.

Windsor is a great place to grow, we have certainly hit a stumbling block along with the rest of the world, but we will bounce back. Where we bounce back to is up to us as a city, let’s stop fighting all the good developments. If you have any ideas to help promote or developed the city let’s hear them. Any ideas can be given consideration or even give brain-storming ideas to those who may have something in the back of their mind they didn’t originally think of.
